Milan Report

Milan was again vibrant and fantastic and, with another 20 new products to launch this year, it will be hard to keep up. Some highlights included:

  • Plank’s new chair Monza, designed By Konstantin Grcic
  • Casamania seem to take us to new levels every year and they have 12 new products
  • an exciting new direction for Casprini with Atatlas, Azhar, Yu Yu and more..

Some of the major players were absent as you would expect in tough economic times, however passion and belief in the industry remains; the Europeans, as always, show remarkable resilience. Salone del Mobile is a fantastic fair. Mark it in your diary as it is a unique opportunity to experience a wonderful Italian city come alive.

Products

Monza by Plank

After the projects Miura and Myto, the Monza chair embodies the further development and deepening of the collaboration between Konstantin Grcic and Plank. The project connects the materials wood and plastic injection moulding and hence the artisan roots of Plank with the characteristics of modern industrial design. The Monza armchair is conceived as a simple wood-construction, which formally refers to a typology of chairs originating in Scandinavia. The chair’s main character is defined by a back/armrest in plastic moulding, which on the one hand serves the chair’s structure and on the other provides comfort and colour.

Stereo by Casamania

Stereo by Casamania, is a system which combines elegance, lightness and versatility. The typically Nordic style makes it both modern and classic. In 2009 designer, Luca Nichetto has taken the Stereo seating system even further with the presentation of two new structures with optional armrests: 4 spoke swivel base with gas lift, and 5 spoke wheeled base with gas lift. The polypropylene seat can be partially or completely upholstered. The base is aluminium.

Azhar by Casprini

New to Casprini the Azhar range of seating, pictured with the Atatlas table, conjures a perfectly balanced object for the dining or seating experience. Designed by Marcello Ziliani, the chair
is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Its structure is aluminium casting, lacquered in shiny white or black. The Shell is available in shiny or clear antistatic and UV resistant Technopolymer. The Azhar chair range extends to a stacking sled base chair, with frame in chromed or painted steel. As proof of complete attention in production by Casprini, Azhar chair and Atatlas table (both pictured) have passed the CATAS, EN and ansi-bifma testing.
