Monash Pharma Wayfinding/

This extensive project is part of a $150 million redevelopment of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Monash University) Parkville site. The most comprehensive wayfinding project we have undertaken, its successful completion was due largely to a committed and enthusiastic client (Louise Gray), a signage company that kept its promises (Premier Graphics), and a design manager who excelled (Wendy Ellerton).

Mohawk Show 10/

The tenth anniversary of the Mohawk Show, which celebrates the work of designers and printers around the world, received a record number of entries this year. We are delighted to announce that the Tobias Frere-Jones Poster we designed for AGDA NSW was one of 15 finalists selected this year. It will be displayed as part of a travelling exhibition and accompanying catalogue that traverses the globe next year. Thanks to David Pidgeon (AGDA Vic) and Simon Pemberton (AGDA NSW) for their support on this project, and to Raleigh Paper (the paper used on the poster was Mohawk Navajo).

Colour Mania/

Victionary are an innovative Hong Kong-based publisher with an impressive range of titles. We were invited to submit work for their latest book, Colour Mania, and have three identity projects featured; Coo, DesignFlow and our own studio identity. The book features a unique sequencing structure where work is ordered according to its dominant colour. A bit contrived perhaps, but it makes for a colourful reading experience.

Type Tablet/

We recently produced a limited edition promotional gift themed around eight distinctive typographic characters. Manufactured from striking black acrylic, the A5-sized tablet was lasercut diligently by our inhouse expert, Wendy.

Re:collection/

Re:collection is an online inventory of Australian graphic design produced in a period circa 1960–1980. A self-initiated project, it was borne out of frustration at the lack of local reference material available, specifically from the decades mentioned above. The simple site structure was developed to facilitate regular updates and the focus is on imagery initially with some in-depth articles to follow. Thanks to Flint Interactive for their help with the programming.

Hofstede Identity/

We initially implemented the first stage of our identity back in July 2007. Over time it has evolved to embody many of the key characteristics we associate with successful identity design. An overview of its numerous incarnations is now featured on our website, with additional applications to follow as they are developed.

Studio News/

Back in July the studio contributed to EyeSaw 2009, a street exhibition forming part of the Sydney Design Festival. For those interested in reading more about our contribution to this exciting event, there is an extensive article in the text section of our website.

The studio’s commitment to the design industry was reinforced in October when Dominic became a member of the AGDA Victoria council. The opportunity to impact directly on the professional lives of our colleagues is a heavy responsibility, but one embraced with enthusiasm and a healthy dose of humility.

The year is concluding with some exciting work for clients both new and old including Focus Paper, Brand Architects and Hardie Grant Books. We are also busily completing a studio publication which focuses on some of the intriguing people we collaborate with through our work. Look out for more news early in 2010.
